Keep an alternative link ready
When a WAN link becomes unavailable, route traffic to a suitable alternative. For critical applications, build a setup that supports session continuity with SpeedFusion Hot Failover.
Peplink marine solutions combine Peplink router technology with Poynting marine antennas. For yachts, commercial vessels and offshore applications, we plan 4G/5G, Starlink and OneWeb satellite links (Orbit WAN), InControl2 cloud management and marina Wi-Fi in a single network architecture.
Connectivity conditions change throughout a voyage. Cellular networks serve near the coast, satellite (Starlink, OneWeb) takes over offshore, and Wi-Fi WAN (marina Wi-Fi) is available in port. Peplink helps you manage these sources according to link quality, priority and cost policies.
When a WAN link becomes unavailable, route traffic to a suitable alternative. For critical applications, build a setup that supports session continuity with SpeedFusion Hot Failover.
Combine multiple WAN links inside a tunnel with Bandwidth Bonding. With WAN Smoothing, reduce the effect of packet loss on voice and video at the cost of additional data usage.
Plan operations, crew and guest traffic on separate networks. Define link priorities, bandwidth limits and access rules to suit your operational needs.
SpeedFusion requires a compatible remote endpoint or the SpeedFusion Connect service. Features, capacity and subscription requirements depend on the selected router, firmware and service plan. The satellite terminal and airtime service are supplied separately.
Peplink's Orbit WAN feature (firmware 8.6.0 and later) recognises Starlink and OneWeb terminals as WAN interfaces on the router; terminal status and signal quality are monitored alongside cellular, fibre and Wi-Fi WAN links. For projects using multiple satellite terminals, the MAX Orbit 2, 4 and 8 router series is also available. The InControl2 cloud platform lets you monitor the entire fleet on a live map.
Short obstructions and satellite handovers are not counted as outages; during a real outage, traffic moves to the 4G/5G cellular links. The satellite link can join the SpeedFusion tunnel together with cellular links; WAN Smoothing and SpeedFusion Boost reduce the impact of an unstable connection.
With Peplink InControl2, track your vessel's performance along its route, signal quality, data consumption and link status from a single central interface.
Near the coast and in the marina, 5G/4G and marina Wi-Fi links are prioritised to avoid using up expensive satellite data unnecessarily.
We do not choose routers and antennas by user count alone. Cruising area, simultaneous connection needs, mounting space and data traffic are evaluated together.
Combined planning of cellular and satellite links for guests' everyday internet use, remote working and crew communication.
Network designs using multiple carriers and WAN sources for ship-to-office data, maintenance access and crew internet.
4G/5G where coastal coverage exists, with satellite access supporting communications beyond coverage.
In Peplink marine projects, the MAX BR Pro family covers cellular access, Wi-Fi WAN and multi-WAN management. Because SIM changes are difficult when the router is mounted close to the antenna, compatible models such as the MAX BR2 Pro can use the Peplink SIM Injector to keep SIM cards inside the vessel at an accessible point; the MAX BR1 Pro 5G uses eSIM instead.
SINGLE 5G MODEM
A starting point for vessels that want 5G access with a single cellular modem and redundancy through external WAN sources.
DUAL 5G MODEM
For yachts and professional marine projects that need two independent cellular connections at the same time.
EASY SIM ACCESS
A remote SIM management device that keeps SIM cards inside the vessel, separate from the router, for CPE enclosure or mast-top router installations. It connects to the router over Ethernet.
The number of SIM slots is not the number of modems working at the same time. The antenna plan is based on the device's exact product code, hardware revision, number of active modems and each modem's RF ports.
The router manages data traffic; the antenna system forms the RF side of the cellular link. We match the SWIRL, RIPPLE and WaveHunter families to the number of modems, mounting space, cable distance and the vessel's operating conditions. See the full range of Poynting marine antennas.
Combines cross-polarised cellular antenna elements in a compact housing. SWIRL-4 provides antenna connections for one 4×4 modem; SWIRL-8 for two separate 4×4 modems.
A marine antenna array with an enclosure designed for suitable router integration. RIPPLE-8 with eight and RIPPLE-16 with sixteen cellular RF connections allow larger systems to be built.
With a compatible router placed in the antenna enclosure, the internal network can be reached over Ethernet instead of long coaxial runs. On compatible models, SIM access can be moved into the cabin with the SIM Injector.
The OMNI-402 is an omnidirectional 4G/5G antenna with two cellular connections for boats and coastal applications. With 410–4200 MHz coverage and IP68 protection, it is matched to the RF port layout of a suitable Peplink device.
For superyachts, commercial vessels and marine applications demanding high data capacity, WaveHunter makes 24 cellular RF connections available as six separate 4×4 MIMO modem groups. The cross-polarised antenna array is engineered together with a suitable Peplink router and network equipment.
| Router / modem configuration | Cellular antenna connections | Suggested solution |
|---|---|---|
| MAX BR1 Pro 5G | 1 × 4×4 MIMO / 4 ports | SWIRL-4 or a suitable 4-port OMNI solution |
| MAX BR2 Pro | 2 × 4×4 MIMO / 8 ports | SWIRL-8, RIPPLE-8 or two SWIRL-4 |
| Four 4×4 cellular modems | 4 × 4×4 MIMO / 16 ports | RIPPLE-16 or a suitable multi-antenna setup |
| Six 4×4 cellular modems | 6 × 4×4 MIMO / 24 ports | WaveHunter or a suitable multi-antenna setup |
This table shows cellular RF pairing; it does not indicate that the router will physically fit in the antenna enclosure. Wi-Fi and GNSS connections are planned separately. "8 ports" means two separate 4×4 connections in a dual-modem system; it does not mean a single modem runs 8×8 MIMO. WaveHunter's 24 RF ports are likewise planned as six separate 4×4 modem groups; port count alone does not guarantee higher speed.
Distance from shore, carrier coverage, international cruising and data plans are defined. Needs beyond cellular coverage are planned with satellite access and Orbit WAN.
Antenna position, the vessel's metal structure, mounting height and cable length are evaluated together. For mast-top installations, SIM Injector or eSIM use is planned.
WAN priorities, user networks and InControl2 remote management needs are defined. During commissioning, link failover and real application performance are checked.
Orbit WAN is a firmware feature (8.6.0 and later) that manages Starlink and OneWeb terminals as WAN links on Peplink routers. Terminal status and signal quality are monitored on the router and in InControl2, short obstructions are not counted as outages, and the satellite link can be included in the SpeedFusion tunnel. MAX Orbit 2, 4 and 8 is a router series designed to use multiple satellite terminals together.
InControl2 is Peplink's cloud-based central management system. It lets you monitor the network status, location, link quality and data usage of your vessel or entire fleet live on a map, and update settings and security policies with a single click.
When the router is placed on the mast or inside the antenna enclosure (CPE) to reduce RF cable loss, changing SIM cards becomes difficult. The SIM Injector keeps SIM cards inside the vessel (cabin or equipment room) and connects to the router over Ethernet. It is used with compatible models such as the MAX BR2 Pro; the MAX BR1 Pro 5G does not support the SIM Injector, so eSIM is preferred on that model.
Yes. On a suitable Peplink device, the satellite terminal's Ethernet output can be connected as a WAN. 4G/5G and satellite links can be used together with priority, failover or a suitable SpeedFusion setup. The terminal's Ethernet connection, router ports and service plans are checked for each project.
No. The number of simultaneous cellular connections is determined by the number of modems. A single-modem device can switch between SIMs; using two independent carrier connections at the same time requires two active modems.
Load balancing distributes different sessions across different WAN links. SpeedFusion bonding can combine traffic at packet level via a suitable remote endpoint. Actual speed is limited by link latency and capacity, tunnel overhead, router performance and the remote endpoint.
SWIRL-4 suits one 4×4 MIMO modem; SWIRL-8 suits two 4×4 MIMO modems. For example, the BR1 Pro 5G uses four and the BR2 Pro uses eight cellular antenna connections. For the final choice, the product code, cables and connectors are checked.
It is considered for marine projects using several cellular modems where the router should be placed close to the antenna. The choice between RIPPLE-8 and RIPPLE-16 depends on the total RF connections and physical integration needs.
Cellular modem and RF port requirements are one of the main criteria. RIPPLE-8 supports two, RIPPLE-16 four and WaveHunter six 4×4 MIMO modems. Mounting space, support structure, router placement and the technical requirements of the selected product version are also evaluated.
An antenna or CPE enclosure does not by itself include a Peplink router. The router, antenna variant, mounting accessories, power supply and licences are each specified separately in the quotation.
No fixed distance applies to every vessel and route. Base station height, frequency, antenna placement, line of sight, sea conditions and network configuration all affect the result. An antenna helps make use of existing coverage; it does not create a cellular connection on the open sea where there is no coverage.
No. Wi-Fi WAN (marina Wi-Fi) lets the vessel use the marina's wireless network as an external internet source. On-board Wi-Fi gives users and on-board devices access to the local network. Peplink routers can manage both functions at the same time.
