What is WaveHunter?

An antenna that houses the router

The Poynting WaveHunter is not a router but an antenna enclosure that the router is installed in. You mount your own 4G/5G router inside the enclosure, turning it into a complete customer premises equipment (CPE) unit.

Because the router sits right below the antennas, the RF cables are very short. Signal that would be lost in long mast cable runs reaches the router almost without loss in the WaveHunter.

  • Designed for bonding and aggregation with multiple routers
  • Routers up to 450 × 280 × 110 mm with optional WaveHunter brackets
  • Customer-supplied tiered frame for additional equipment
  • Metamaterial (AMC) antenna technology derived from the XPOL-2-5G

Antenna array

Six 4×4 MIMO sea and shore antenna arrays

The WaveHunter contains 12 cross-polarised (X-pol), high-gain 2×2 MIMO directional antennas arranged in two tiers offset by 60°. This provides 360° coverage and allows a separate 4×4 MIMO link in each direction.

Multiple routers, multiple operators Capacity ↑

Six 4×4 MIMO arms allow bonding with routers connected to different operators or different base stations.

360° directional gain Range ↑

Directional antenna gain is available in every direction; even as the vessel turns, the antenna facing the best direction is used.

X-pol diversity SINR ↑

±45° cross-polarisation maintains MIMO performance against sea-surface reflections and fading.

Short RF path Loss ↓

With the router inside the enclosure, a 0.75 m RG141 pigtail is enough; no long coaxial cable run down the mast is needed.

What does it deliver?

Fast data throughput

High gain and multiple MIMO links let many users on board use Netflix, YouTube and Teams at the same time (an estimated 2 Mb/s per session).

FAQ

About the Poynting WaveHunter

Does the WaveHunter include a router?
No. The WaveHunter is an antenna enclosure; you install your own 4G/5G router inside it. With optional brackets it holds routers up to 450 × 280 × 110 mm.
How many routers can be connected?
On the cellular side there are six 4×4 MIMO arms (24 ports). Port use is planned according to the routers' MIMO configuration and the number of routers that fit in the enclosure.
What is the difference between the WaveHunter and the SWIRL?
The SWIRL is a compact marine antenna with the router installed separately. The WaveHunter houses the router inside and, with 12 directional X-pol antennas, offers 360° coverage and multi-router support; it is the top-tier solution for superyachts and commercial vessels.
What is the difference between the -101 and -102 models?
The A-WHUNTER-001-V4-101 comes with a pedestal, while the A-WHUNTER-001-V4-102 is a surface-mount version without a pedestal. Antenna and electrical specifications are identical.
