POYNTING OMNI-0493 MARINE ANTENNA

OMNI-0493 Marine & Coastal 4G/5G Antenna

The Poynting OMNI-0493 is a high-gain, omnidirectional 4G/5G antenna designed for yachts, boats and coastal facilities. It provides 8 dBi peak gain across 617–6000 MHz, and its IP68 marine-grade housing resists salt water and UV.

What Is the Poynting OMNI-0493?

The Poynting OMNI-0493 is a single-port (SISO), high-gain marine antenna developed to reach distant base stations offshore and along the coast. Thanks to its multi-dipole structure and Poynting's patented feed network, the radiation pattern stays controlled across the entire band.

The 617–6000 MHz range covers the 700, 800, 900, 1800, 2100 and 2600 MHz bands used for 4G and 5G, as well as the 3.5 GHz (n78) 5G band. 8 dBi gain is a high value for an omnidirectional antenna: by concentrating energy toward the horizon in the horizontal plane, it extends range at sea. Thanks to the 5–6 GHz band at the top end, the antenna can also be used for 5 GHz Wi-Fi applications.

  • 617–6000 MHz ultra-wideband: 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G and 5 GHz Wi-Fi
  • 8 dBi peak gain, 360° omnidirectional coverage
  • IP68 marine-grade housing: salt-spray and UV protected
  • N-type (female) connector; cable selected as required
  • Pole and wall mounting; optional 316 stainless steel brackets

Two antennas for MIMO: The OMNI-0493 is a single-port antenna. For 2×2 MIMO on 4G/5G routers, two OMNI-0493 antennas are used with sufficient spacing between them. For 2×2 MIMO in a single housing, the OMNI-0402 is the right option.

Poynting OMNI-0493 Applications

Wherever the signal weakens as you move away from shore, its high gain keeps the connection alive for longer.

The antenna comes without a cable. Choose a low-loss coaxial cable to suit the cable route on the boat; at 3.5 GHz and above, the loss of thin cables rises quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Poynting OMNI-0493

What is the difference between the OMNI-0493 and the OMNI-0291?

Both are single-port marine antennas. The OMNI-0291 covers 450–2700 MHz with 7 dBi and supports LTE450. The OMNI-0493 reaches up to 6 GHz with 8 dBi gain, covering the 3.5 GHz 5G band and 5 GHz Wi-Fi as well.

How does it connect to my router?

The antenna comes with an N-type (female) connector. Since the router side is usually SMA, a low-loss cable with an N-type (male) connector on one end and an SMA (male) connector on the other is used.

Is higher gain always better?

At sea, mostly yes: base stations are at angles close to the horizon, and 8 dBi gain concentrates energy in exactly that direction. However, since the vertical beam becomes narrower, a lower-gain antenna may give a more balanced result in harbors right below a base station or on a high hillside.

How many kilometers does it connect at sea?

Distance is mainly determined by antenna and base station height; beyond the radio horizon the signal falls off quickly. For details, see our 4G/5G signal range at sea page.

Where should I mount the antenna on the boat?

Mount it as high as possible on the superstructure, outside the radar beam and away from VHF antennas. Keeping it away from metal masts and surfaces preserves the radiation pattern.
